FHS grid frosh are TVAC 2nd

For the third consecutive season, Farragut High School’s freshmen football team earned a trip to the Tennessee Valley Athletic Conference championship game.

Farragut, north division champ, traveled to south division champ Ooltewah Saturday, Nov. 1, and lost a heartbreaker. On the last play of the game from the OHS 5, an Admirals pass into the end zone bounced off a receiver’s fingertips. The Freshmen Ads finished with a 6-3 record.

“This was a great group of young men to work with,” FHS head coach Benny Lyle said. “They improved as the season evolved and seemed to have a great time together. Regardless of the score, this group will always be champions to me.

“Thanks to the assistant [coaches]: Toddy Greene, Alex White and Mark Battle.”

Zach Hannay’s 5-yard TD run and Jacob Johnson’s two-point conversion pulled Farragut even, 8-8, in the second quarter.

Braden Urevick’s hit on the ensuing kickoff dislodged the ball and Garrett Bowdle’s recovery led to the go-ahead score. Quarterback Cody Rule’s 37-yard touchdown pass to Urevick and Addison Taylor’s conversion kick pushed FHS ahead 15-8.

With Ooltewah up 22-21 early in the fourth quarter, Farragut got another 5-yard touchdown run from Hanney to lead 27-22.

Rule ended 11-of-18 for 182 yards, while Urevick had four catches for 83 yards and Johnson four for 51. Rule rushed for 72 yards, Hannay 71.

Leading tacklers were Tyler Nugent and Johnson with seven each. Robert Wrinkle had five.
