Restaurateur opens second eatery in Turkey Creek

Vinny & Me owner Steve Manolopolous has opened his second restaurant in Turkey Creek, Vlahos, located next door.

Vlahos, a “Greek estiatorio and taverna” serves authentic Greek food ranging from appetizers (“mezzethes”) and main dishes (“kyria piata”) to desserts (“glika”).

“I thought this was a good opportunity to introduce something different to the public,” Manolopolous said.

“It’s a truly authentic Greek restaurant … real, original Greek dishes,” he added, listing appetizers such as spanakopita and desserts such as baklava.

“And of course we have traditional Greek coffee, which you can’t find anywhere,” Manolopolous said.

“One of the reasons I made this menu is, number one, Greek food is healthy, and number two, it’s very reasonably priced.

“And in today’s economy, that’s something people are looking for,” he added.

Vlahos opened at the beginning of November.

“The reception has been fantastic.

“We’re basically full for lunch and dinner every day,” Manolopolous said.

Manolopoulos opened Vinny & Me after moving to Knoxville from Montreal, Canada. Manolopoulos said he noticed a need for an independent restaurant that offered something a little different. “So I decided to park my car, buy a house, and build a couple of restaurants, in that order,” he said.

Vlahos is open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and is closed Sundays.
