presstalk 671-TALK

• Despite appearances and attitudes to the contrary, Belleaire Drive is still a public road. I repeat, a public road. Yet the contractors doing work seem to have forgotten this. They are driving at reckless speeds up and down the road, often in the middle; sometimes driving backwards, backing up extremely fast. They will park on the side of the road and block a good section of the road. Or while they are moving equipment, they actually drive down the wrong side of the road. I’m surprised that someone from the Town, the Sheriff’s department, the Tennessee Department of Transportation isn’t watching this. … this is a public safety issue. … Somebody’s going to get hurt, possibly killed … .

• Please do not do anything to Virtue Road, it’s working very well just as it is; and anything that you do to it is going to destroy the pastoral setting.

• Via e-mail: I just wanted to make a comment. Recently our neighborhood has had several break-ins, both vehicles and homes. We have also had trouble with mailboxes getting bashed. I personally have requested our neighborhood get patrolled more, but have yet to see this happen. I live in the Old Stage Hills area. We recently got a call saying our home alarm was going off, we told them we were 20 minutes away so please dispatch the Sheriff’s Department. We arrived and at no surprise the cops had not arrived. One hour and 37 minutes later the [police] arrived! Please tell me if anyone else sees this as a problem. Luckily this was just a false alarm, but if it had not been the criminals would have had plenty of time to get away. I do not feel the response time of the Sheriff’s Department was acceptable, I know that Knox County is a big area, but 1 hour and 37 minutes!! Well just wanted someone else's thought on this.

• Editorial freedom is a wonderful concept, but it does come with its responsibilities. With that in mind, the farragutpress has developed policies that will be followed regarding the publication of presstalk comments:

• Libelous comments will not be published.

• Malicious comments will not be published.

• Comments will remain anon-ymous.

• Recorded comments will be limited to 30 seconds.

• Names of individuals or businesses mentioned in the call may not be published (including public figures and officials) depending on the issue.

• Comments mentioning the names of public figures, not issue related, will be published as a “Letter to the Editor” and must be signed.

• farragutpress reserves the right not to publish any comment for any reason.

• Because of space limitations, not every comment will be published. Also, portions of the 30-second message may be omitted, but the basic message of the call will remain intact.

• Vulgar language will not be printed.

That’s it. The forum is open for comments regarding anything you have on your mind — local politics, world affairs, sports, religion, community affairs, city-county unification or anything else.
