Horne ponders 2010 governor’s race

A “Governor’s Residence East” in Fox Den subdivision is not out of the realm of possibility if a Farragut resident chooses to toss his hat into the 2010 Tennessee governor’s race.

Farragut resident and Farragut High School graduate (1963) Doug Horne announced recently he is considering a race for governor in the upcoming election and plans to meet with other Democrats pondering the race to see if they can agree on uniting behind one candidate.

Horne said he had been in touch with U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis, state Sen. Andy Berke of Chattanooga and Mike McWherter, son of former Tenn. Gov. Ned McWherter, and expects them to join in the meeting. He said Harold Ford Jr. also would be invited, though Horne has not, as of presstime, contacted the former congressman yet.

“We’re going to try to have a united effort, if possible,” Horne said.

Horne, former chairman of the state Democratic Party, said he personally would like to be the candidate, but wants to discuss the options with others.

Horne, CEO of Horne Properties of Knoxville and owner of farragutpress, Republic Newspapers and Horne Radio is married with two children. A graduate of The University of Tennessee, he worked for Tennessee Valley Authority for 14 years, before starting Horne Properties in 1981.
