• Town of Farragut invites sand volleyball enthusiasts to break out of the winter months and participate in the second annual “Break the Chill” Sand Volleyball Tournament Saturday, March 28, at Mayor Bob Leonard Park off Watt Road. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tournament will feature two divisions – co-ed competitive and co-ed recreational – and consist of four to six players with at least two females on each team. Players will only be allowed to play on one team and may not play in both divisions. Tournament will be played in a round-robin format with a single elimination final, and teams will be guaranteed at least seven games. Early bird registration begins Thursday, Feb. 5, and continues through Friday, March 6, at a cost of $150 per team. Registration fee from March 9 through March 24 will be $175 per team. Fee includes lunch and prizes for tournament champs. Registration will be limited to the first eight teams in each division; registration and payment deadline is 5 p.m., Tuesday, March 24. • Harlem Superstars will be entertaining the community with their special style of basketball as they take on the faculty of Hardin Valley Academy and other community members at 6:30 p.m., Feb. 10, in the HVA gym. Buy tickets early for $8 at HVA front office or pay $10 at the gate.

• Cedar Bluff-Farragut Optimist Girls Recreation Softball League sign-ups for ages 4-19 run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., each Saturday Feb. 7, Feb. 14 and Feb. 21, at the CBFO complex, 11609 Northshore Drive in Farragut. • CBFO Volleyball spring season registration for girls and boys leagues (third through 12th grade) now available at UPS store, 11130 Kingston Pike, Suite 1. E-mail: cbfovolleyball@charter.net to get a registration form/schedule e-mailed to you. On hard copies, schedule is on reverse side of registration form. Deadline is Feb. 27. Openings are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. Fee is $80.

• Sign-ups for Farragut Baseball, Inc leagues is underway for ages 3 to 14 through Saturday, Feb. 14. Sign-up form can be picked up at Goin Postal along Kingston Pike or Diamond Baseball Academy off West End Avenue or online at farragutbaseballinc.com. Signups for ages 15-18 this spring.

• Farragut Flames 10 and Under Baseball Travel Team is looking for two players for its spring season roster. Travel out of town will be limited. One Flames coach said the program is “committed to building fundamental baseball skills, character and a highly competitive team.” Players cannot have their 11th birthday before May 1. • Up to 150 runners are sought as Roadkill Running Club announces the inaugural Smoky Mountain Left Turn Marathon beginning in Oak Ridge March 15 and running through the cities of Oak Ridge and Clinton with only left turns. A training team is underway, with room for new runners to join and prepare for the event. • Phil Garner, former Major League Baseball player and manager after standout careers at Bearden High School and as a Tennessee Volunteer second baseman, will have his number retired during the 2009 Tennessee Baseball Leadoff Banquet Thursday, Feb. 19, in the Knoxville Convention Center. Event will begin with a reception at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and the program follow at 7 p.m. Garner is featured speaker. The All-Century Baseball Team also will be introduced and honored. Garner played second base for the Vols from 1968-70. Major League career highlighted in Pittsburgh (1977-81) and was part of the 1979 Pirates team that won the World Series, contributing 10 hits in the Series. Leading Houston to the 2005 World Series has highlighted Garner’s managerial career.

• 2009 Tennessee State High School Swimming & Diving Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, Feb 13-14, in Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center on The University of Tennessee campus. Meet will be hosted by the Pilot Aquatics Club of Knoxville.
