Town conducts park ‘kid’ talks
FIS kids polled

Members of Farragut’s Parks and Leisure Services department recently held a special meeting regarding phase II of McFee Park … complete with pizza, Play-Doh and drawing supplies.

As was first reported on Farragut First Edition at www.farragutpress.com, staff members met with members of Farragut Intermediate School’s “K Kids” club and asked the children to sculpt and draw their idea of “the perfect playground.”

“We have a new park on McFee Road,” Sue Stuhl, town of Farragut’s Parks and Leisure Services director, told the children.

“We build parks in phases, a little bit at a time, and the next phase is going to have a playground in it and you guys are going to help us decide what might go in it.

“You are helping us plan the future,” she added.

The K Kids had no shortage of ideas.

Jack Devault thought the park should include a climbing rock, but his idea didn’t stop there. He wanted the wall to include a bridge and a slide.

Kyndal Balideau thought the playground would not be a complete success without a zip-line because “little kids like to go down them.”

Amaris Seepe went into detail.

“This would be the little slide thing that they enter and then slide down into an hour glass, and then they climb up and it’s a big cloud room where they can bounce around and it is all soft,” she said.

Amaris said while there might be room in her design for regular swing sets and merry-go-rounds, “they would be more … not like regular swing sets and stuff.”

Some of the students, such as Kimmy Linkowski, had ideas for playground equipment of their own design.

“This is something that kids could sit down on and spin around,” she said.

Once the students were finished, their projects were given to Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon.

“They will try to incorporate all of those ideas into an actual reality,” Stuhl said.
