Lady Ads’ season ends in region

Overwhelmed by Oak Ridge’s second-quarter defensive pressure, Farragut’s Lady Admirals never fully recovered and had its season ended by the nationally ranked Lady Wildcats, 70-57, in Region 2-AAA opening round action Friday, Feb. 27, at ORHS.

Hayley Newby, sophomore post, led Farragut (21-11) with 21 points, followed by teammate Kylann Scheidt, FHS junior wing, with 14 and Stephanie Torrence 12. “Hayley play excellent, she really got after it,” FHS head coach Wes Edmonds said. “But we had a hard time just being able to get the ball in there to her.”

About Torrence, a guard who’s one of three FHS seniors, Edmonds said of her career, “Everyone knows about Stephanie Torrence, the way she scores, the things she does for us on offense. She had a good year.”

Brittany Doss, three-year starting point guard, “is a very calming influence ... I take for granted how well she handles the pressure,” Edmonds said, adding Doss was FHS’s No. 2 three-point shooter.

Wing Jennifer Rutherford “was our most consistent three-point shooter,” Edmonds said, also praising her toughness and determination. “What can you say about a girl who plays her whole senior season on a blown A-C-L? ... Worked hard, made it the whole year.”
