Lady Bulldogs struggle, lose during opening week of softball

A young Bearden softball team paid for its inexperience during the opening week of the 2009 season. The Lady Bulldogs opened the season by losing to William Blount 12-2 at BHS Monday, March 9. “It was basically all errors,” BHS assistant coach Leonard Sams said of his team’s nine unearned runs allowed. Bearden then traveled to Heritage and lost 9-1 Tuesday, March 10.
However, “there were some real good bright spots offensively,” Sams said of Bearden sticks Emma Kugler, Haley Miles and Hannah Champlin.
About the slow start, and knowing the team is extremely young, “you’ve gotta keep it in perspective,” Sams said.
