Hardin Valley softball hits the diamond running with three early victories

Hardin Valley Academy began its varsity softball regular season in grand style March 9 at HVA: pitching two no-hitters and winning big.

Sophomore ace pitcher Laura Hensley began her HVA career with a pair of no-hitters in a doubleheader sweep of District 3-AAA rival Campbell County, 10-0 in game one and 3-0 in game two.

“She pitched real well … that’s given us a lot of confidence,” said HVA head coach Michael Fredieu, whose team went to 3-0 after a 16-4 win at Clinton Tuesday, March 10. “We work hard. … But it’s definitely been a surprise. We’re proud of the girls.”

Hensley recorded seven strikeouts in game one against CCHS (four innings) and five strikeouts in game two. The sophomore had seven more versus Clinton (five innings) after Hardin Valley trailed at one point 4-2.

Shortstop Liz Dobbins had an inside-the-park home run versus CCHS in game two, while Hensley did the same at Clinton.

Center fielder Lana Shaw had three stolen bases in the Campbell County doubleheader. Second baseman Emily Cox added two stolen bases versus Clinton.

After a spring break holiday, HVA plays at 3-AAA archrival Karns starting at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 24, then hosts West at 6 p.m., Wednesday, March 25.
