Weimers kick off ‘Z Foundation’

Last fall Farragut mourned alongside the Weimer family as they dealt with the loss of their 12-year-old son and brother, Zachary, after a tragic zip-line accident took his life.

Shawn, Sally and Kelly Weimer all said they were touched and overwhelmed by the love, support and compassion showered upon them by the community, Two Rivers Church, where they are members, and Farragut Middle School, where Zach was a student.

To honor Zach, Sally said the family “has chosen the path of faith and formed a foundation in Zach’s honor.”

The family has called the organization “Z Foundation.”

“After much thought, prayer and consideration, including remembering what impacted Zach the most, [we] decided on making ‘Serving to Change Lives for Eternity’ the motto and main goal of the Foundation,” Sally said.

Z-Foundation’s mission statement will be two-fold. First, it will promote and provide service opportunities to families and youth in the Farragut and surrounding communities and second, it will work closely with several local and international organizations to provide them with funding, media and volunteers to successfully strengthen and build their ministry or program.

Friday, April 17, Z-Foundation will host a Launch Party at Two Rivers Church to thank the community who supported the Weimers, provide more information about the charity’s mission and inspire those who have been touched by Zach.

“The night’s entertainment will be headlined by the award-winning Christian band F-F-H, from Nashville, and will be complimented by the talents of guest worship leader, Stefan Youngblood, from North Carolina,  and Farragut’s own Travis Hill, a successful singer-songwriter now living in Nashville. There will also be dessert, Z Foundation merchandise for sale, a Silent Auction, speakers, testimonies from people whose lives have been changed because of Zach, a food drive and sign-ups for the upcoming Z Foundation Service Day,” Sally said.

“Tickets are free, but you have to register on-line to receive a ticket and you have to bring at least two food items for Second Harvest Food Bank,” she added.

Saturday, April 25, Z Foundation will hold its first charitable event.

“The Foundation will coordinate a large half-day work project for families and youth,” Sally said.

“This date is in conjunction with a local event called, ‘Serving Knoxville as One,’ and an international event called, ‘Global Youth Service Day.’  The plans are to meet at The Shed, at Two Rivers Church, at 1 p.m. for prayer, worship and instructions.  Then everyone will head to downtown Knoxville to a selected neighborhood to do yard clean-up, gardening and put on a block party for the local children.

“At 5 p.m., we will head back to The Shed to share stories, eat dinner, and be entertained by a local youth, Christian band.

“We hope this will be the first of many more Z Foundation family and youth service days,” she added.

The signature event of the Z Foundation will be “The Hope Festival,” planned for October.

“This will be an annual, one-and-a-half day music festival for the town of Farragut — and beyond.

“There will be three or four big name Christian bands, speakers, information booths about the ministries and organizations the Foundation supports, games, contests, food and fun for the whole family and people of all ages,” Sally said.
