• Ivan Racheff Huse and Gardens’ Spring Plant Sale will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 4. Dozens of varieties of plants will be for sale as well as books and gardening paraphernalia. There also will be free seminars inside Racheff house beginning at 11 a.m., and a light lucn will be available from Racheff Café from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Proceeds from the sale will be used to develop and maintain Racheff Wildflower Garden and Fern Cobble. • The University of Tennessee Gardens at the West Tennessee AgResearch and Education Center announces it recently was selected as a Conifer Reference Garden by the American Conifer Society. With this new distinction, UT Gardens at Jackson is now one of only six Conifer Reference Gardens in the southeastern United States. • City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation announces it will offer spring tennis and softball leagues, canoe tours and bicycle rentals. • Harriman Police Department will host the Annual Rittenhouse/Emory River 5K and Half-Marathon beginning at 8 a.m., Saturday, April 18, at Riverfront Park in Harriman. • Knoxville-Knox County Council on Aging will offer Family Caregiver Support meetings for anyone of any age who is a caregiver for a senior citizen. • Historic Homes of Knoxville will host home tours in a celebration of community and the Dogwood Arts Festival from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 18. • Knox County Public Library invites teens to Shakesfest from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 4, at East Tennessee History Center to celebrate the birthday of William Shakespeare. Tennessee Stage Company will perform a modern interpretation of some of Shakespeare’s classic scenes and Knoxville native young-adult author Alan Gantz will read from his Shakespearean-themed teen mysteries “Something Rotten” and “Something Wicked.” Throughout the month teens also can enter the Shakespeare-themed book cover design contest for grades 9-12. • Loudon Parks and Recreation invites motorcycle enthusiasts to the inaugural Smoky Valley Rally June 4-7. Rally will feature planned rides every day for all registered attendees including RT 129/the Dragon, Fall Creek Falls, Cherohala Skyway and a poker run. Attendees also can take a riverboat breakfast cruise on the Watts Bar Belle riverboat and kayak on the Tennessee River, among other activities. Smoky Valley Rally general activities will begin daily, rain or shine, at 8:30 a.m. at Loudon Municipal Park. Daily passes are $10 and an event pass for all four days is $25. Event will feature live music every evening at the park along with contests, vendor displays and demonstrations and concessions. • The Primary Stroke Center at The University of Tennessee Medical Center announces it has recently received recertification through The Joint Commission, the nation’s predominant standards-setting and accrediting body in healthcare. In 2006, UT Medical Center became the first facility in Knoxville to earn certification as a Primary Stroke Center.
