Hardin Valley soccer starts 0-2-1

Though head coach Mike McLean’s Hardin Valley Academy boys soccer team is winless in three games during the program’s inaugural season, the Hawks did manage one tie.

However, despite a 2-2 finish against Lenoir City in HVA’s first-ever home game March 13, “I feel, so far, we haven’t played up to our potential,” McLean said. “We’re young and we haven’t put it together yet. There’s a lot of room for improvement.”

Hardin Valley’s two losses have come against soccer powerhouses: 3-0 at Catholic, defending Class A/AA state champion, March 10, and a 7-0 blanking by Class AAA power Bearden at HVA Tuesday, March 24.

Individually for the Hawks, “probably our two most consistent players are Justin Haskell [center defender] and Dalton Guzman [center-midfielder],” McLean said. “We push Justin forward when we try to look for a goal.”

Having hosted District 3-AAA rival Central March 31 (after press deadline), the Hawks travel to Carter for a match beginning at 6 p.m., Friday, April 3.
