HVA baseball grabs first program win
Alan Sloan - Thu, Apr, 16, 2009
Champion High School (Ohio) was Hardin Valley Academy varsity baseball’s first-ever victim.
The HVA program’s first win, 5-2, came during the 10-team Blount Pharmacy Invitational Saturday, April 11, at Heritage High School.
“It was a very good day of baseball,” Hawks head coach Kirk Renegar said, praising his team’s pitching in a tight 2-0 loss to Heritage earlier that day. “Ryan Russell and Joey Covell both pitched outstanding ballgames.”
In beating Champion, “Nathan Richardson threw a complete game,” Renegar said. “Really had command of his fastball and his breaking ball. Really did a good job competing for us.”
Offensively, “Graham Rowan had two big doubles on the day, both drove in runs for us,” Renegar said.
“Defensively, Jake Denton and Clay Williams, our shortstop and second baseman, had a number of assists. Clay made a great backhand play up the middle,” he added.
