HVA soccer near 3-AAA top; Baseball Hawks edge Karns
Win at OR huge for soccer
Alan Sloan - Thu, Apr, 23, 2009
Wasting no time competing for District 3-AAA honors in its inaugural season, Hardin Valley Academy boys soccer already has bagged one big fish in 2009.
Unbeaten in district entering the week at 3-0-1, 4-3-2 overall, the Hawks “biggest game we’ve had all year was beating Oak Ridge 1-0 at their place,” HVA head coach Michael McLean said of the win against perennial power ORHS Tuesday, April 7.
Goalkeeper Joey Hinshawk “had a great game,” McLean said.
With first-place on the line in a home showdown versus West Tuesday, April 21 (after press deadline), the Hawks went 1-0-1 last week.
A 2-2 tie versus neighborhood 3-AAA rival Karns Thursday, April 16, came two days after Hardin Valley crushed Kingston on the road 7-1 Tuesday, April 14.
Through nine games, McLean also praised the “consistency” of defender Trent Stethen and center-midfielder Dalton Guzeman
