Ferowich tops among Westsiders at Vol Classic


Among a field of more than 80 high school teams, including a handful of out-of-state squads, Westside schools managed top-three finishes in four events during the 46th Annual Volunteer Outdoor Track Classic.

Held at The University of Tennessee’s Tom Black Track Saturday and Sunday, April 17-18, the Classic’s Westside highlight was Megan Ferowich of Knoxville Catholic winning the girls 3200-meter run in 10:50.48.

Edward Dutton of Hardin Valley Academy took second in boys 300 hurdles (39.91), followed by Webb School’s John Anderson in third (40.69). Bearden’s Mary Hirst took third in girls high jump (5-05.00).


OAK RIDGE RELAYS

Two BHS Lady Bulldogs led the way among three Westside girls to win events during the annual Oak Ridge Relays at ORHS Saturday, April 11.

Among a 15-team girls field, Bearden took third behind freshman Rebecca Stover’s first-place finish in the 1600 run (5:17.17) and Hirst winning high jump (5-04.00).

Webb’s 4 X 1600 girls team won (23:17.70), helping the Lady Spartans take eighth. Farragut’s girls were seventh and Hardin Valley 10th. Maryville was girls champ.

The FHS boys finished fourth behind champ Oak Ridge, with Bearden ninth, Webb 12th and HVA 13th.
