Ads, BHS dodge rain briefly
In 4-AAA tourney, FHS blanks LC

Rain and muddy conditions have reigned superior to Farragut’s bats and pitching arms so far during District 4-AAA Tournament four-team bracket action at FHS’s John Heatherly Field.

Two days behind schedule thanks to four consecutive days of rain, the Ads’ side of the tourney — No. 1 seed FHS, No. 4 South-Doyle, No. 5 Sevier County and No. 8 Lenoir City — had managed to squeeze in three games through Monday, May 4.

The Admirals (30-5) blanked Lenoir City 10-0 in the rain Sunday afternoon, May 3, before further make-up action was halted. Monday’s FHS-South-Doyle winners’ bracket game also was postponed due to rain.

Blake Hayes’ two-run homer was a walk-off shot in the bottom of the fifth inning, capping a four-run outburst to end the Panthers game.

Mac Thoreson connected for two hits and one RBI for Farragut, while Steven Weaver and Curt Powell each added two-RBI singles. Cade Stallings also had two singles.

Winning pitcher Nick Williams started and went the full five innings, allowing just one hit and two walks with seven strikeouts.
