Boys hoops changes: Wells to CAK, Norris leaves Oak Ridge for Webb

Christian Academy of Knoxville High School and Webb School of Knoxville have named new varsity boys basketball head coaches.

At CAK, Shane Wells comes from Lenoir City, where he led the Panthers boys the past two years to consecutive Region 2-AAA qualifying seasons. Wells is coming off a 17-11 campaign.

Ricky Norris takes over at Webb after seven seasons leading the Oak Ridge Wildcats (174-71 record). His tenure was highlighted by trips to the Class AAA state tourney in 2005 and 2008.

Wells is a 2002 graduate of Tennessee Wesleyan College who also spent two years at Loudon County High School. “We see in Coach Wells three key traits ... his innovative ideas for program development; his demonstrated ability to teach the game, and his passion for integrating faith into all aspects of training and play,” said Steve Denny, CAK athletic director.

Wells will teach elementary physical education.

Norris’ duties at Webb School also include becoming dean of students. The 1991 Karns High School graduate earned an undergraduate degree from Tennessee Wesleyan in 1996.

Dave Meske, Webb AD, said Norris “brings tremendous experience to our program and has had a lot of success in the past.”
