First Final 4
FHS Lacrosse dumps Brentwood in ‘Final 8’

Farragut High School Lacrosse broke new ground on several levels Saturday, May 2, and is headed to its first-ever state “final four.”

The Ads whipped Brentwood 10-3 in a state tourney quarterfinal game at Bill Clabo Field in what FHS head coach Ted Stank said was the first-ever lacrosse state playoff game in Knox County.

Farragut, 11-1, now travels to Nashville for the state “final four” Saturday, May 9. State title game is Sunday, May 10.

Defenseman Alex Encarnacion said the win “is a huge step for our program.” Spencer Amerson, senior attackman, said FHS “came out flying. … Seniors came up big.”

Ahead 5-2 at halftime, FHS was led by attackmen Marty Sutton, Mitchell Peek and Macon Peek with two goals each. Amerson, Nick Taylor, Preston Hewgley and Ben Selecman each added one goal. Casey Hicks had one assist.

Individually, Stank said, “Our face-off guy [midfielder Cason Hewgley] did not lose a face-off. Alex Encarnacion is just our heart and guts. Our goalie [Austin Williams/eight saves] kept us in it, he was great.”

The coach said defenseman Connor Stank, “always shuts down” the opponent’s best attackman, adding Amerson, Sutton and Macon Peak comprise “the best attackmen in the state.”
