• Despite its 15-8 loss to MUS in the state high school lacrosse “final four” tournament in Nashville Saturday, May 8, Farragut earned a number of distinguished individual awards while finishing the 2009 season 11-2. Alex Encarnacion, senior defender, was one of only six Tennessee players named an All-American. Alex and Cason Hewgley (face-offs) were named First team All-state. Head coach Ted Stank was named Tennessee State Lacrosse Association Coach of the Year, while FHS assistant Gavin Baker was named state Assistant Coach of the Year. Spenser Amerson (attack) and Connor Stank (defense) were second team All-state honorees, while Macon Peek, Ace Englert and Nick Taylor were named All-Region. Marty Sutton, Casey Hicks and Preston Hewgley were second team All-Region.

• Farragut Middle School Baseball and Farragut High School Baseball freshmen teams are holding tryouts at FHS’s John Heatherly Field: FMS, 1 p.m. each day June 3 and June 4; FHS freshmen, 5 p.m. each day June 3 and June 4.

• Bearden High School softball will hold tryouts for 2010 season starting at 5 p.m., Friday, May 15, at BHS’s Kim Hazelwood Field. Bring a glove.

• Tour de Cure is a one-day cycling event June 6 geared to all cyclists from the novice rider to the avid cyclist to raise funds of American Diabetes Association. Ride will start in Lenoir City and take cyclists through Loudon and Roane counties. Each route will loop back to the start/finish line where riders can recharge with a meal, massage, music and kid’s activities. World-renowned professional cyclist Kent Bostick, holder of 12 national titles and two world, will participate.
