• Blount Mansion, James White Fort, Marble Springs, Mabry-Hazen House, Ramsey House and the Sequoyah Birthplace Museum will partner to host Statehood Day Heritage Festival Saturday, May 30, and Sunday, May 31. Each site will provide special activities to commemorate events leading to Tennessee’s statehood including: historical reenactments, Native American living history, live music, colonial cooking and frontier arts and crafts demonstrations. • Registration for the Seventh An-nual Knoxville Dragon Boat Race is underway and will continue through June 5. Event, which benefits Knox Area Rescue Ministries, will be held Saturday, June 27, at The Cove at Concord Park. • Registration is now open for the U.S. Kids Golf Knoxville Summer Local Tour. Event, open to participants ages 5-14, will consist of eight one-day tournaments, including a season ending one-day Tour Championship, in the Knoxville area from June through July. Local tour schedule is: June 4 – Gettysvue; June 10 – Centennial; June 17 – Three Ridges; June 30 – Knoxville; July 8 – Patriot Hills; July 16 – Whittle Springs; July 20 – Dead Horse Lake; July 22 – “Knoxville Tour Championship” at Eagle’s Landing. • American Museum of Science and Energy in Oak Ridge will host a “1940’s Postcards and Scrapbooks” exhibit through July 10. For more information, visit www.amse.org.

• Shangri-La Therapeutic Academy of Riding is looking for volunteers to help children and adults with disabilities during its Summer Session of therapeutic horseback riding. Lesson Volunteer Training will be held from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m., Saturday, May 30, rain or shine. Attendees must be at least 13 years old. Horse experience is not necessary. • The Wellness Community will host the following events in May: from 1:30 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, “Gyn/Ovarian Networker. From 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, “Ask the Doctor: Skin Cancer.” Dr. Robert N. Page will discuss the basics about diagnosis, staging and treatment for the three most common types of skin cancer. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 28, “Knoxville Breast Cancer Networker.” Group is for women who have had or have breast cancer to come together to share education and support. From 10 a.m. to noon, Thursday, May 28, “Mindfullness in Everyday Life: Awakening to Joy.” Ann Pendley, meditation instructor, will discuss developing techniques to recognize and open to joy present in daily life. Class is suitable for beginners as well as those familiar with mindfulness meditation practice. The Wellness Community also offers several weekly support group meetings for cancer survivors, cancer patient caregivers and family bereavement. • In response to the overwhelming popularity of the enhanced series of free diabetes management classes held in February, Knox County Health Department is offering a similar curriculum on five Thursday evenings in May and June. The classes, which are part of KCHD’s Comprehensive Approach to Reducing Diabetes Program, will be held at 6:30 p.m., May 7, 14, 21, 28 and June 4 in the auditorium at 140 Dameron Ave. Additions include free supplies and drawings for great prizes, cooking demonstrations and a free meal each week. • Frank R. Strang Senior Center will host the following programs during its Lunch and Learn series: Thursday, May 14, Dr. Keith Woodward will present “Reversing Strokes & Repairing Aneurysms without Surgery. Wednesday, May 27, Dr Brian Edkin will present “Hip & Knee Arthritis and Joint Replacement.” Wednesday, June 3, Susie Wilson, licensed clinical social worker, will present “Emotional Wellbeing & Depression/Memory Screening.” Wednesday, June 24, Dr. David Adkins will present “Getting a Good’ Nights Rest and Other Healthy Sleep Tips.” All programs begin at noon, are $5 for Passport members and include lunch. • Frank R. Strang Senior Center will host Tennessee Valley Ensemble Concert beginning at noon, Wednesday, June 10. Event will kick off with a hotdog lunch. A $2 donation includes lunch and concert.

• Frank R. Strang Senior Center will host its Strang Members Annual Picnic beginning at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 1, at The Cove at Concord Park. Participants should be a covered dish to serve six. Event will include door prizes, live music and special guests. Event is free but participants should call 865-670-6693 to register.

• Frank R. Strang Senior Center will host “Digital Photography Class for Dummies” at 1 p.m., May 12 and 26 and June 9 and 23. Cost of class is $5 and class size is limited. • Town of Farragut will hold a Bicycle Safety Clinic from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, May 17, in the Harrison Road parking lot at Mayor Bob Leonard Park. Event is free and open to community members age 7 and older. Participants will learn basic bicycle safety skills from qualified cyclists. Event will include the following stations: bicycle safety check; helmet fit; rules of the road presented by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office; start and stop; scanning; balance and steering control and mock streets. Stations specifically targeted to adults will include bicycle maintenance, bicycle fit and general safety education. For more information, call 865-966-7057.

• Town of Farragut will offer the following educational summer camps for kids this summer, hosted by Sciensational Workshops for Kids: Medieval Castle, from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday June 15, through Friday, June 19. Kids ages 6-11 will dig the ruins of a medieval castle and uncover replicas of four ancient treasures. Amphibious Vehicle and Rowboat, from 1 to 4 p.m., Monday, June 15, through Friday, June 19. Kids ages 7-12 will build an amphibious vehicle that can travel on both land and water and then participate in the land and water races. Kids also will build a model rowboat piece by piece and watch it travel in a pool. Botball Robotics, from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, June 22, trough Friday, June 26. Kids ages 7-12 will build and take home their own soccer-playing, remote-controlled Botball that can kick, move forward and backward, turn left and right and make a complete circle. Maglev Cars Summer Camp, kids ages 7-12 will build their own futuristic Maglev car to race and take home. Cost of all camps is $140 per child and includes snacks and all supplies. • Town of Farragut is now accepting applications from members of the community who wish to serve on one of the following advisory committees, councils and boards: Arts Council, Beautification Committee, Board of Plumbing and Gas/Mechanical Examiners, Board of Zoning Appeals, Folklife Museum Committee, Parks and Athletics Council, Personnel Committee, Stormwater Advisory Committee and Visual Resources Review Board.
