Wickenden taking golf game to Belmont

- Kim Johnson/farragutpress
Elliott Wickenden, FHS standout senior golfer, signed National Letter of Intent papers with Belmont University, Nashville, during a May 21 ceremony in FHS Commons. In helping the Admirals boys team win the 2008 Class AAA state title last fall, Wickenden earned All-state honors with a top-10 finish (74, 18 holes). Among his numerous other shining efforts was a top-10 finish in the USGA Boys Junior Amateur qualifier at Old Fort Golf Course, Murfreesboro. “I liked Belmont because it’s a smaller school, and they’re a growing golf team,” Wickenden said. “So I thought it would be a good choice for me.” Scott McKenzie, FHS golf head coach, said about Wickenden, “We’re obviously going to miss him. He’s got a lot of raw talent. He’s played solid. I think he’ll do extremely well at Belmont.” Seated alongside Wickenden are his mother, Annette Wickenden, and sister, Claire Wickenden. Standing, left to right, are Dwayne Simmons, FHS athletics director/assistant principal, McKenzie and Mark Wickenden, father.
