HVA student joins Board

Knox County Schools announced Sara Denton, a rising senior at Hardin Valley Academy, would be its student representative for the 2009-2010 school year. Eager to assume her new role, Sara said, “As the student representative on the Knox County Board of Education, I look forward to many things. Meeting new people and understanding their specific interests connected to our schools and students will allow me to better understand the different needs in our county. I hope to gain better understanding of the process of decision-making, compromise and conflict resolution the Board is faced with regularly. As a current student I would like to share our perspectives when important decisions are being made by the School Board that will impact our future. The leadership skills I will observe will better make me aware of the importance of listening, knowledge, patience, competency, encouragement and responsibility.” This new responsibility will add to the many extracurricular activities Sara already takes part in. Denton is an avid martial artist, having earned a black belt in American Karate, an accomplished pianist and is actively involved in her church and plans to participate in an upcoming mission trip to Honduras to work in a home for foster children.
