FHS’s Powell is Tennessee 2009 Gatorade Player of Year

Curt Powell, Farragut High School All-state shortstop and four-year starter who helped FHS win three Class AAA baseball state titles in four years, has been named Gator-ade Player of the Year in Tennessee.
“It’s an award based on baseball achievement and character, what you do outside baseball,” FHS head coach Tommy Pharr said of the Vanderbilt signee who hit .504 as lead-off hitter in 2009, 44 starts, with eight homers, 21 stolen bases. “He’s a high-character kid. It’s the first time we’ve had anybody [win].”
