• New 12-U girls travel fastpitch softball team is holding open tryouts for all positions and pitchers. Local travel to begin this summer and fall. For more information, call 865-680-8500 or 865-696-2775.

• Missy Kane, Covenant Health fitness expert, and Legacy Parks Foundation are hosting a series of summer hikes on local greenways. Staff from Covenant Health’s new BodyWorks community exercise program will be on hand with advice and information. • CBFO Volleyball accepting registrations for fall season for boys and girls, rising third- thru 12th-graders. Deadline is Aug. 21 and spots filled first-come, first-served.

• Knoxville Track Club is hosting its annual summer track and field program for local East Tennessee youth through June 27. Open to all girls and boys between ages 5 and 18. Practices held from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday, at more than 20 schools in Knox area. Program also offers a Saturday track meet June 27 at UT’s Tom Black Track. • Tony White Jr., former All-state shooting guard at Bearden High School and starting guard at College of Charleston (S.C., Southern Conference) is heading back to Knox County in an official capacity. The rising senior and his C of C team, coached by Georgia Tech legendary coach Bobby Cremins, will visit Thompson-Boling Arena and play against coach Bruce Pearl’s Tennessee Volunteers, reportedly in late November (UT schedule had not been released at press deadline). During his college career, White averages 10.6 points and 2.4 assists per game and was College of Charleston’s second leading scorer last season (12 per game).
