LCUB to file suit

Lenoir City Utilities Board authorized a lawsuit against Townsend Corporation for allegedly reneging on a tree-trimming contract at its meeting, Monday, June 15.

“We don’t understand necessarily the reason why this occurred; however, they are not going to perform the work,” LCUB assistant general manager Shannon Littleton said.

“The last time we checked they were in good status; they were a viable corporation … I assume they made their analysis and their bid was so low that, to save money, they’re not going to perform the work,” he added.

The tree-trimming contract instead was awarded to the next lowest bidder.

LCUB also approved a bid for the purchase of a steel package to Substation Products for $144,800 for the Board’s planned Turkey Creek substation.

The Board also approved a contract to Community Develop-ment Partners LLC to administer any State Revolving Fund stimulus funds LCUB may receive.

“We do not have stimulus money, SRFs, in our hands right now, but we are anticipating,” Littleton said.

In other business, the Board:

• Approved annual gas, water and sewer bid recommendations

• Approved annual gas meter and regulator bid recommendation

• Approved the professional engineering contract amendment for Fulghum, Macindoe and Associations Inc. for the wastewater treatment plant digester and trickling filter rehabilitation project

• Authorized the sewer department to seek construction bids on the Browder Hollow sewer project

• Awarded a bid to Myers Controlled Power LLC for purchase of two 13 KV breakers and metal enclosed switchgear, in the amount of $236,315

• Approved Brown Jake & McDaniel PC to audit LCUB accounts for fiscal year 2008-09

• Authorized the electric department to seek bids for the replacement of a 2004 Dodge Dakota, a 1995 Chevrolet line truck and a 1994 Ford F350 material truck.

• Approved a fifth amendment to LCUB’s employee’s retirement plan
