Yard sales could spur home burglaries

Could burglars be targeting residences in Farragut after scouting out neighborhood yard sales?

Laura Ash, State Farm in Renaissance | Farragut, said her home was targeted after a neighborhood yard sale in Andover, Fox Den and Hickory Woods.

“It was sort of a coincidence that the weekend we did that, the week after, we had something stolen,” she said.

“We’ve never had a problem in our neighborhood ever,” she added.

Other residents were targeted as well.

“That week we had a pretty bad theft claim from someone’s home with jewelry involved,” she said.

However, since then, Ash said she has not received claims from many home burglaries.

“I haven’t had any other theft-related claims,” she said, but most of her business comes from outside Farragut.

Knox County Sheriff’s Office Public Information officer Martha Dooley said residential burglaries and car thefts were down in recent months.

“We are attributing the home burglaries to the fact we made a few big arrests a couple of months ago,” Dooley said.

“That’s cut way back on a lot of the home burglaries we’ve been seeing,” she added.

In addition, “[We are] not aware of anybody targeting yard sales or anything like that,” Dooley said.
