Two All-star honorees from Farragut High School baseball’s back-to-back Class AAA state titles competed against 144 players nationwide in USA Baseball’s Tournament of Stars, earning two of 34 positions on the 18U National Team Trials squad.
Admirals rising juniors Nicky Delmonico, infielder (left), and Philip Pfeifer, southpaw pitcher — both huge contributors to the United States 16-U National team in 2008 that won an international gold medal — will be going the National Training Center in Cary, N.C., where the team will be cut to 20 for competition in Venezuela. In addition to Pfeifer and Delmonico, only National Player of the Year Bryce Harper and two California players have been invited from the Class of 2011.
