Students get hands-on history lesson
- Thu, Jul, 9, 2009
Farragut resident Britton Jordan joined several of his Murphy-Cates Academy, Kingston, classmates in end-of-school-year visits to Kingston’s Fort Southwest Point as part of the school’s history classes.
The fort, built in 1797 and used until 1811, is a great resource for local history. The children learned about weapons used at the fort, saw genuine artifacts discovered on-site, toured the barracks and blockhouse, and watched videos about the fort’s history. Pictured above, Britton handles a saddle pack made from a raccoon skin.
