Boating accident sends one to jail, another to hospital

Officers from Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency arrested the pilot of a wake board boat, charging him with boating under the influence, following a boat collision at Concord Park late Thursday, July 9.

The arrestee, Jonathan K. Clay, 25, of Knoxville, also was charged with violation of the implied consent law.

TWRA reported it happened around 9:45 p.m. when a 22-foot Moomba wake board boat with four people on board partially passed over an 18 1/2-foot Nitro bass boat taking part in a fishing competition with two people on board.

A passenger on the Nitro boat, Roger Durham, 55, of Knoxville, was seriously injured in the collision.

The Nitro boat was driven by Charles Durham, also of Knoxville.

TWRA said the Durhams were entering a no-wake zone on their way to the boat ramp for the tournament weigh-in when the incident occurred.

No one else was injured.
