After 30 years, Davis sells Farragut Lawn-Tractor to Ag-Pro

After 30 years, Farragut Lawn and Tractor Supply, 13131 Kingston Pike in the Dixie Lee Junction area, has a new owner and a new name, Ag-Pro LLC.

“After 30 years I decided to sell,” said Wayne Davis, 86, former owner of Farragut Lawn & Tractor Supply. “It was time.”

“We’re excited about being here,” said Barrett Barnett, general manager of Ag-Pro, a privately held regional company based in Boston, Georgia, with 80 locations throughout the Southeast. “We think Farragut is a fine town to have a presence, and we’re hope to be able to grow the footprints we’ve been able to acquire.

“We feel that Farragut is an excellent market for us to be able to provide service to the citizens of the Town, and we look forward to being able to continue the Ag-Pro quality that we’re used to providing in other parts of the Southeast,” he added.

“The Ag-Pro motto for years has been ‘strong on service.’ We believe in treating people right and providing them a high-quality service. That’s our goal.”

A full-service John Deere dealer in “parts, sales and service,” Ag-Pro also sells Stihl hand-held products plus Honda lawn and garden products, Barnett said.

It carries everything from 25-horse power to 75-horse power and has the ability to get what the customer needs, he added.

Davis, who moved to Farragut in 1988 after retiring from a 25-year career in the Army, bought Farragut Lawn and Tractor Supply in 1991, partnering with a friend, Jim Montgomery of Farragut. Montgomery retired in 1996.

A Rotary Club of Farragut member, Davis said Ag-Pro representatives approached him in late September 2020.

“We’re always interested in growing,” Barnett said of the company. “We had an opportunity to do so, and Mr. Davis was looking to exit the John Deere world.”

“We’ve been negotiating, and the sale was consummated on June 23,” Davis said. “I had mixed emotions about selling, but Ag-Pro has an excellent reputation. It is one of the largest John Deere ownerships in the country.

“Because it is so big, it will be able to offer a lot more amenities for customers than I, an independent dealer, was able to,” he added.

“I’m also gratified they were able to employ all my employees. I’m glad they did that.”

Looking back, “I really enjoyed the last 30 years,” Davis said. “It was a hoot. I met a lot of interesting people while building my business in Farragut.”

However, “I’m still very active and hope to remain active,” he added.

Ag-Pro is open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday; from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturdays; and closed Sundays.

Walk-in traffic is welcome; drop-off service and appointments are available.
