• Fourth Annual Farragut High School Sixth Player Club Golf Tournament and Million Dollar Shootout begins with an 8 a. m. shotgun start Saturday, July 18, at Willow Creek Golf Club in Farragut. Million Dollar Shootout after tourney play will give the player closest to the pin of a pre-determined hole during tourney play a chance for $1 million if he/she nails a hole-in-one on the Par 3, 165-yard No. 16 hole. • Annual Farragut High School Football Camp for ages 7-14 runs from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, to Friday, July 24, at the FHS football complex. Registration is ongoing at Knox Sports Center in Stonecrest Shopping Center, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturdays. • Knoxville Fire 9U baseball team is looking for one or two elite players for Fall 2009. Team is comprised mostly of players from Farragut or who have played in the Farragut Baseball, Inc. leagues. If interested, call 865-308-0899. Child must still be age 9 on May 1, 2010 to be eligible. 

• Farragut High School softball is holding tryouts at the program's home, Bellamy Field, from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 23. For more information, call coach David Moore at 865-274-6257.

• Head coach Eddie Courtney’s Farragut Admirals are scheduled to be among a large field at Maryville College, as MC Football will be host the 2009 East Tennessee 7 on 7 Perimeter Passing Day Saturday, July 18. Games will begin at 10 a.m. and conclude at roughly 6 p.m. Event has been organized in memory of Cody Bowers, a Maryville College football coach and alumnus who died tragically in the fall of 2007. FHS and 30 other schools have committed to the event, which matches teams up into pools and allows each to practice their passing game for the upcoming season. Other schools participating include Alcoa, Greenback, North Murray (Ga,), Anderson County, Greeneville, Oak Ridge, Knoxville Catholic, Heritage, Polk County, Chattanooga Central, Karns, Sequatchie County, Claiborne County, The King’s Academy, Sequoyah, Cumberland County, Knox Central, Seymour, Cumberland Gap, Lenoir City, Smith County, East Ridge and Loudon, Maryville, Wartburg Central, Fulton, McMinn Central, White County and Grace Christian Academy. Admission is $4 and concessions will be sold.

• A Farragut girls fastpitch softball team that would represent the Farragut middle school area, grades 6-8, is holding tryouts for fall and spring seasons, 2009-2010. For more information, call 865-919-8504 or 865-223-2310.

• Harvey Broome Group of Tennessee Chapter of the Sierra Club announces upcoming outings. Saturday-Sunday, July 25-26: Backpack, Lower Snowbird Creek (N.C.). Lower Snowbird Creek has three waterfalls rated excellent and Sassafras Creek has another. Creek is in a valley that rivals the Joyce Kilmer Wilderness. Trails are generally easy walking. Hike is from the Junction outside Robbinsville, NC, via Sassafras Falls and Upper Falls and probably camp near Big Falls, with time for exploring and maybe swimming at each of the falls. Hiking distance is about 11 miles total (with optional added miles hiking up to Upper Falls). Hike rated easy. Drive time is 90 miles each way. Will hike the Little River trail, Cucumber Gap trail and a bit of Jake's Creek trail, a five-mile relatively easy loop in the Elkmont area. Drive time 50 miles each way. • Inaugural Tennessee State Church Golf Championships will be held Saturday, July 25, in Hendersonville at the prestigious Country Hills Golf Course. Prizes will be awarded for first-, second- and third-place teams, longest drive, shortest drive, closest to the pin as well as a large cash prize if any player scores a hole-in-one. A putting tournament also is featured. Entry fee is $85 per player ($340 per team) and only churches physically located in Tennessee are eligible. Registration begins at 11 a.m. CDT, Saturday. • Missy Kane, Covenant Health fitness expert, and Legacy Parks Foundation are hosting a series of summer hikes on local greenways. Staff from Covenant Health's new BodyWorks community exercise program will offer advice and information. Cost is $10/hike or $45 for series, with proceeds benefiting Legacy Parks Foundation. • CBFO Volleyball accepting registrations for fall season for boys and girls, rising third- through 12th-graders.
