Cap’n Ernies expands

Following customer suggestion, Captain Ernie’s Fish House Restaurant is expanding to allow more seating.

“We have had very little complaints. We made some comment cards, and what they were putting on the comment cards … they wanted more space,” Ernie Rodriguez and wife, Lyana, said.

“We just want to better serve everybody,” Ernie added.

Other implemented ideas from the comment cards will include larger tables for seating bigger parties, as well as “better ambience.”

The expanded seating at the restaurant will accommodate 60 additional guests, excluding bar space.

In addition, the new section will feature arched windows so customers still can see the kitchen prep line. Ernie believes the open kitchen is one of the most unique features of the restaurant, and wanted to preserve it.

“Not too many restaurants do that,” he said.

The expanded seating area will come with an expanded menu for the restaurant. Ernie’s now will offer wine and beer, as well as a shucking bar for oysters.

Steamers, featuring shrimp or clams could also become part of the menu. A soup and salad area will be available in the newly expanded restaurant.

“People are really enjoying the fresh fish, the quality. Everything is made to order; we make all our sauces, and everything is made from scratch,” Ernie said.

Ernie and Lyana said the expansion was all due to customers, who often wait in line to be seated at the restaurant.

“Farragut’s been awesome to us, and Knoxville. It’s just been incredible; they’re such good people,” Ernie said.

“We’re very thankful,” Lyana added.

In the future, the shopping center’s parking lot will be expanded, allowing Captain Ernie’s to have an outdoor seating area.
