Work to begin on Lovell Road

Knox County Commissioners approved a project agreement with Tennessee Department of Transportation for more than $3 million in improvements to Lovell Road.

The funds are coming from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.

“It’s an extension of the existing Lovell Road project,” Bruce Wuetrich, Knox County Engin-eering and Public Works, said.

“When the project got bid, with the estimates we got on it, we realized we were not going to be able to take it all the way to the Pellissippi Parkway, so the first phase they’re doing falls short.

“When the stimulus money came available, we added back in this last component, which will now take that road improvement all the way underneath Pellissippi Parkway,” he added.

Lovell will be widened to five lanes to a point at Cedardale Road. Ramps off Pellissippi onto Lovell also will be improved.

The project, now it has been approved, will be administered by TDOT. Wuetrich did not know when the project would be let or when construction would begin.

“T-DOT will see where they are as far as plans and all that, and then put it in their bid schedule,” he said.

Calls to TDOT representatives were not returned by presstime.
