New Town committee appointments made

Farragut’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved charters and appointed citizen volunteers to three of its newly-formed committees, Thursday, July 23.

The recycling committee charter was approved with a maximum membership of seven.

Vice Mayor Dot LaMarche nominated Tom Rosseel, Jaime B. Hoover, Michael Ryan, Lynda Williams, Kathleen O’Hara, Duane Winkler and Nathan W. Burris for the committee.

The committee is to study the feasibility of the Town creating its own recycling center, and thus is a temporary committee.

The Town’s 30th Anniversary committee charter was approved with a maximum membership of nine.

Marianne McGill, Nancy Wentz, Mary Lou Koepp, Carolyn S. Coker and Pat Sloan were appointed to the committee.

The 30th Anniversary committee is to implement plans to celebrate the Town’s 30th anniversary in 2010 and is a temporary committee.

“They should seek to coordinate local businesses, community and civic groups to facilitate participation from as broad a base as possible,” Mayor Ralph McGill said.

The Farragut Community Center Study Committee charter was approved with a maximum membership of 15.

Chuck Griffin, John M. Radu II, Mary Ellen Reda, Amanda Dagnan, Marianne McGill, Nancy Wentz, Jerome Miller, Tom Rosseel, Chris Malone, Mike Karnitz, Carolyn S. Coker, Robert Hill, Robbi McKinney, Ed Pasley and Pat Sloan all were appointed to this committee.

The Community Center committee will study the feasibility of the Town building a centrally located community center.

“I’ve long advocated the idea of some kind of campaign” to pursue public-private partnership, Alderman Jeff Elliott said.

The Board decided not to limit membership of the committees to Farragut residents.

“A person who owns a business in the Town ought to be accorded the same as someone who lives here,” McGill said.

The Board also appointed Michael Ryon to the Stormwater Advisory Committeee.
