It’s football time in Farragut
West Knox prep teams take to the gridiron at KOC football jamboree at Neyland Stadium Friday

After landing at Farragut High School’s Bill Clabo Field in 2007 and Bearden Stadium in 2008, Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic’s Kickoff Classic “Jamboree” returns to Neyland Stadium/Shield-Watkins field.

Twenty Knox County and Knox area football teams will participate in the annual quarter of action, including Westside teams FHS, Bearden, Hardin Valley Academy, Knoxville Catholic, Webb School of Knoxville and Christian Academy of Knoxville.

Headgears begin to pop at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 14.

About returning to Neyland Stadium, FHS head coach Eddie Courtney said, “I think it’s a great environment, especially for the kids, growing up around East Tennessee and just a chance to play in Neyland Stadium. Whether it’s one play or 10 plays or whatever, it’s something you’ll always cherish.

“I think it’s a great thing and I appreciate U-T letting us come back over there and do that,” he added.

Brad Taylor, BHS Bulldogs head coach, said going back to UT “is definitely a good thing. A neat experience for our kids to get to go over there and play. I like it there a lot better.

At BHS, “We’re not big enough to facilitate all those people,” Taylor added about the crowd. “Most high schools aren’t.”

The annual halftime competitions feature kickoff, punt, pass length contests plus linemen 50-yard dash and backs/ends 50-yard dash.

Tickets are $10 at the gate.

First quarter: TSD versus The King’s Academy; Second quarter: Cosby versus Hardin Valley Academy; Third quarter: Grace Christian Academy versus Carter; Fourth quarter: Powell versus KCHS; Fifth quarter: Austin-East versus Halls.

Halftime competitions

Sixth quarter: Fulton versus Karns; Seventh quarter: Bearden versus South-Doyle; Eighth quarter: Webb versus Farragut; Ninth quarter: Central versus Gibbs, and 10th quarter: CAK versus West.
