• North Acres Baptist Church, 5803 Millertown Pike, will holds its homecoming Sunday, Aug. 16, with services beginning at 10:15 a.m.

• Knoxville Christian Center is looking for bluegrass competition contestants, classic cars and crafters to join its Old Fashioned Sunday Weekend, Aug. 29-30. Cash and sponsor-donated prizes will go to the first-, second- and third-place winners of the bluegrass competition and classic car and hot rod shows. • Hope Resource Center will hold a “Walk for Life” Saturday, Aug. 29, at Lakeshore Park. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and walk begins at 9 a.m. “Walk for Life” is a two mile walk to help raise awareness and funds for Hope Resource Center. People are asked to sign up to walk, collect pledges from family and friends to sponsor your walk, and then join together at Lakeshore Park. • Greg Mortenson, author of the NY Times Bestseller “Three Cups of Tea,” will be the guest speaker at a dinner and lecture hosted by the Volunteer Ministry Center. Dinner and lecture will take place at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Mortenson, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, will be sharing his experiences of building schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan for the impoverished villages in those countries.
