‘Taste of Farragut’ slated for Sept. 11

The town of Farragut agreed to become a sponsor of a “Taste of Farragut” event, to benefit ChildHelp, a charity that provides advocacy and foster family services to sexually and physically abused children in Knox County.

“We’re trying to do an event that focuses on the food in Farragut … so that we can show the citizens of the Town what resources are available right here in the Town’s borders,” David Purvis, president of ChildHelp, said.

Taste of Farragut will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 11, which is a bi-week for Farragut High School football.

Participating businesses include Kroger Marketplace, Seasons Café, Shrimp Dock, Silo Cigars, Snappy Tomato Pizza, Tastefully Simple, VG’s Bakery, Estelita’s Mexican Cuisine and local beverage distributors.

“We have media partners in W-F-I-V radio and the farragutpress,” Purvis said.

Music will be provided by a bluegrass band and through WFIV’s live broadcast. Taste of Farragut will be held in the old Kroger parking lot.

Admission to the event will be $25 for adults; $20 for senior citizens and $5 for children 10-and-under. If you pre-register for the event, $5 will be taken from the price of each ticket (except for children).

“We hope this is a multi-year event. We’re starting kind of small this year so we can keep control over it, make sure this comes off as a quality event and hope we can move forward to an annual event in the fall,” Purvis said.

“I think this is something we can grow into a Town-wide event, involving a lot more businesses than are involved this year.

“We have a lot of people who are wanting to come do this,” he added.

The Board unanimously consented to sponsor the event, providing advertising on the Town Web site and cable access channel, but not donating funds.

“This is great. Thank you for doing this,” Mayor Ralph McGill said.

The Taste of Farragut will be held rain or shine.
