• Stuart Thomas, a freshman golfer at Farragut High School and middle school state champ at Farragut Middle last season, finished fourth in the Southeastern Junior Golf Tour Championship in Male 14-15 earlier this month. The three-day, 54-hole event was held Aug. 3-5 on the par-72 Senator Course at Robert Trent Jones Trail’s Capitol Hill in Prattville, Ala.

• Volley for A Cure, a professional-amateur mixed doubles tennis tournament benefiting Knox County’s affiliate of Susan G. Komen for The Cure to beat breast cancer, will be held beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 19, at Fox Den Country Club. Nineteen male professional tennis players will be paired up with 19 female amateurs in a round-robin format. Event is free and spectators are welcome. • Fourth Annual Bruce Pearl Golf Classic begins with a 10:30 a.m. registration and silent auction Monday, Oct. 12, at Gettysvue Polo, Golf & Country Club. • C.J. Dake has committed to continue her education, and basketball career at Maryville College. The daughter of Jayne Dake and the late David Dake, C.J. was a standout forward at Farragut High School who helped deliver three district championships before enrolling last year at Birmingham Southern College (Ala.) This 5-foot-9 standout earned All-District 4-AAA league and Region 2-AAA All-Tournament and All-District Tournament honors at FHS as a senior.

• Atomic City Aquatic Club, a USA Swimming team based in Oak Ridge, starts fall swim practices at 6 p.m., Monday Aug. 24, at Oak Ridge Civic Center pool in preparation for the upcoming short-course swim season. Season begins with a no obligation two-week trial for those new to the team. Team is open to any age youth swimmer who is receptive to coaching and instruction.
