‘Movers and Shakers’ awards presented

Farragut’s Board of Mayor and Aldermen announced the end of the “Movers and Shakers” program, which encourages children to exercise in the summer, with a prize drawing, Thursday, Aug. 27.

Nine children won prizes donated by local businesses. The kids were drawn from a pool of 56 who had completed 52 hours of exercise, the minimum required to be eligible for the grand-prize drawing.

Evan Abbott won Sephora lotion, donated by JCPenney, Erin Mee won a goody bag from Runner’s Market, Amelia Konoms and Devon DeBoe each won one month of free classes at Premier Martial Arts.

Catherine Brown and Grace Reed each won a birthday party at Premier Martial Arts, Mackenzi DeBoe won a $25 Wal-Mart gift card, Elizabeth Menard won a $300 gift certificate to West Bicycles and Elijah Jones won a $360 gift certificate to The Little Gym, for a family membership in the fall 2009 semester.

Leisure Services Director Sue Stuhl said 125 children had registered for the program this summer, up 41 percent from last year.

Sixty-nine children completed less than 52 hours of exercise.
