Diegel medalist as FHS boys cruise to district golf title

Taylor Diegel was the latest Farragut boys golfer to step up in the clutch.

The junior shot a 3-under par 69 to claim medalist honors and lead FHS to a 19-stroke victory (285) during District 4-AAA tourney action at Maryville’s Lambert Acres Tuesday, Sept. 8. “He got off to a good start,” FHS coach Scott McKenzie said. Hayden Anderson and Brandon Rodgers each shot 71. Stuart Thomas fired a 74.

Catholic took second while Bearden finished third and qualified for region as led by sophomore Ben Reeves’ 71, who “drug us into the region,” coach John Heins said.

With Hardin Valley Academy’s District 3-AAA tourney this week, HVA coach Shane Chambers praised the recent play of Wes Gosselin, a 2008 state qualifier.

The KCHS Lady Irish won girls district (170), led by Alec Cunningham’s 78, with BHS (172) and FHS (175) both earning region berths. Region 2-AAA tourney is Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Tennessee National in Loudon.
