Cougars escape HVA rally

JACKSBORO -— In a game that went down to the final second — and then some — Campbell County escaped with a 13-7 victory over Hardin Valley Academy Friday, Sept. 18.

“That was pass interference!” Hawks coach Wes Brown yelled.

Jake Bishop, HVA quarterback, said, “I will not say the referees took it from us, but yes, I thought it was pass interference. I guess you are not going to get a call like that on the road in another town.”

Jones said, “I am extremely proud of the effort at the end. But we came out flat and that was the difference.” The Cougars grabbed a 13-0 lead before the Hawks’ offense got on the field.

Two plays after a 45-minute lightning delay midway through the second quarter, Bishop hit Trey Byrd with a 31-yard touchdown pass. Ryan Bataille added the conversion.
