Culbreth is ESPN top U.S. coach

Wallie Culbreth, Farragut High School boys soccer head coach who has led the Admirals to four Class AAA state titles and one national crown in eight seasons as FHS skipper, has earned one of high school soccer’s highest coaching honors.

Named ESPN RISE “First Team All- American Coach” among a national pool during the 2008-09 boys soccer season, Culbreth deflected credit for the award toward his players.

“It's a tribute to the players that I've had — not just last year [2009 state champs] but the years before because our program's been recognized,” he said. “I just show up and do a few drills and bring water. The kids are really the reason.

“I look at it as a team award more than anything.”

National champs in 2004 while reaching the state tournament six times since 2003 — champs in ’03, ’04, ’07 and ’09 — Culbreth's Ads also have won five Region 2-AAA Tournaments.
