• Farragut High School Choral Department will be having its first concert of the year at 7 p.m, Thursday, Oct. 7.

• South College campuses are going smoke-free providing a healthier environment for students and staff.

• Pellissippi State Community College’s enrollment hit another record high this fall. The college takes a final headcount 14 days after the start of classes, and the number at that point was 10,295 students. Pellissippi State had 8,742 students last fall.

• Knox County Health Department is resuming its in-school FluMist seasonal influenza vaccinations through Oct. 9. A delayed shipment of 9,000 doses of seasonal FluMist arrived last week.

• Pellissippi State Community College has received the go-ahead to offer an associate’s degree program in Nursing, clearing the way for its first class in fall 2010.

• Support Farragut Primary School by sending in product labels with FPS students. FPS will be accepting Box Tops for Education coupons, Campbell’s UPC labels and Tyson Foods Project A+ box flaps and tear-off strips. Or link your store cards to FPS. Ingles, Target and Subway donate a portion of purchases to the school through the Ingles Advantage Card, Target Red Card and Subway Card. FPS also will be recycling printer ink cartridges and newspapers. All of these programs help raise funds for the school. • Roane State Community College and the National Exercise Trainers Association, a non-profit fitness professional association, are co-sponsoring a two-day Personal Trainer Certification workshop Oct. 17-18 at the college’s Roane County campus. The Saturday, Oct. 17 session is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Sunday, Oct. 18, session is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The nationally recognized workshop includes demonstrations and practical application of one-on-one training, as well as exercise science review, communication skills, exercise programming and health assessments. • Roane State Community College Support Staff Council has set the date for its 17th annual Craft Fair and is seeking vendors. Fair will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4at the Roane County campus. Proceeds from booth rentals fund the Gayle Mullins Memorial Student Book Scholarship, which helps Roane State students with the costs of textbooks. Mullins was a former president of the Support Staff Council. She died in 2000, and the scholarship is named in her honor.
