• East Tennessee’s top anglers are invited to test their fishing skills and compete for serious prize money next month. Top catch will win a $2,000 grand prize in the Breath of Life Support Foundation’s 2nd Annual Bass Fishing Tournament at Tellico Canal Saturday, Oct, 17.  The 1 Limit Bait Shop in Farragut will handle pre-registrations from 4 to 7 p.m., Oct. 16. Anglers also can register the day of the event beginning at 5 a.m. for $125 per boat.  All fees tax deductible. Blast off is at first light and weigh-ins start at 3 p.m. along with a cookout. • 2009 Never Stop Exploring Speaker Series is a nationwide tour to bring stories of six top The North Face Athlete Team members to life. Part of a 24-city tour, North Face Team member and ski mountaineer Kit DesLauriers will share her journey of climbing and skiing the highest peak of each continent – the 7 Summits – and the life lessons of adventure, love and survival at Bijou Theatre beginning at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12.

• Third annual City of Knoxville CrossKnox 15K and 5K Walk begins at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, again traveling across Knoxville east to west. The 9.3-mile point-to-point race, run completely on greenways, begins at Alex Haley Statue in Morningside Park in East Knoxville and ends at Bearden Elementary School in West Knoxville. • Fourth Annual ESK 5-K Run/Walk will begin at 8 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, in Cove subdivision in Turkey Creek. Divisions for male and female runners are: 11 and under, 12-15, 16-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over. Cost of running is $30 for registration the day of the race. • Bearden High School Baseball Fund-Raising Golf Tournament is Saturday, Oct. 24, at Willow Creek Golf Club. Registration will be at 8 a.m. Cost is $125 per player or $450 for a team of four. • Town of Farragut Parks and Leisure Services Department Fall Kickball Tournament begins at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, at Mayor Bob Leonard Park off Watt Road. Open to participants 21 and older; consists of coed teams with eight to 12 players each. Each team guaranteed four games. Tournament limited to first eight teams registered. Registration ends Friday, Oct. 2, or until the first eight teams are registered. • In memory of Jerry Hatmaker, Goodwill Industries-Knoxville, Inc. & Allied Toyotalift will host the Annual Goodwill Golf Classic from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 19, at Holston Hills County Club.
