Farragut Food City to close

Farragut’s Food City is closing its doors.

Reportedly, the announcement was made to Food City employees Friday afternoon, Oct. 9. Most of the store’s employees will have the option of moving to other stores.

Farragut West Knox Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Bettye Sisco confirmed Farragut’s Food City, 11130 Kingston Pike, will be closing.

Calls to Food City representatives were not returned by press time, and Food City Farragut’s general manager declined to comment.

A Food City insider, who wished to remain anonymous, said the store already had stopped stocking its shelves.

“They’re definitely closing down. They stopped ordering goods and everything,” he said.

“If you actually walk into the Farragut Food City, you’ll see holes in the frozen [section] and all over the store.

“You’ll even see in the produce section, they’re not even bringing in produce,” he added.

It is unknown exactly when the store will close.

Markdowns are expected to begin this month.

Food City recently opened its newest Knox County location in Hardin Valley. The 43,000-plus square foot store is one of 18 in Knox County, counting Farragut’s store.
