• St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City will host a retreat by Paula D’Arcy, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14. D’Arcy, a writer and spiritual director, will speak on “Seeing the Second Half of Life Through New Eyes,” sharing reflections, lessons and knowledge to aid men and women in more fully experiencing their spiritual journey. • First Baptist Concord’s Quilter’s Anonymous is a group dedicated to learning, working and improving their quilting skills. Each fall, a new project is presented to the group. You can participate in the new design, or you are welcome to bring you own project from home. Group will next meet from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Kingston Pike campus room, Saturday, Oct. 17.

The church welcomes Blankenship, along with his wife, Jennifer, and three daughters. Blankenship will be kicking off a new children’s church ministry called “Clubhouse 212,” Sunday, Oct. 18. • Concord United Methodist Church will donate toys to about 600 children in Morgan and Scott counties for Christmas. Cash and all sizes of batteries also will help. Do not donate candy. Children will be between newborn and age 18. Donation boxes will be located at the church. Deadline for donations is Dec. 1.
• Concord United Methodist Church will host its “Trunk or Treat” from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 25. Community is invited. Dinner is provided, children will trick or treat safely from car trunk to car trunk in the church’s east parking lot. Kids also can participate in games.
• St. John Neumann Catholic Church welcomes its new choir director, Andy Forsythe, who will direct the 10:30 a.m. service choir. Forsythe is from Chattanooga, where he taught at Notre Dame High School.

• Virtue Cumberland Presbyterian Church holds “Downhome” worship services each Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m. The worship service includes an acoustic musicians group who play “just strings and voices.” Service includes many old hymns and gospel selections, as well as a time of teaching by the Rev. • Knoxville Bishop Richard F. Stika will preside at a Mass of Thanksgiving in honor of Sister Albertine Paulus, beginning at 3 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 18, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Paulus will formally retire Oct. 19. A light reception will follow the Mass from 4 to 6 p.m., at Sacred Heart Cathedral School gymnasium. Paulus, a 1947 graduate of Knoxville Catholic High School, received the prestigious Papal honor “Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice” in 2006. She has served the Diocese of Knoxville since its inception 21 years ago.
• October is pastor appreciation month. Union Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold a pastor appreciation luncheon Sunday, Nov. 8, directly after the church’s worship service.
• Messiah Lutheran Church will hold a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, for the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Fair will include booths of individual crafters, both local and out of community, selling their goods of original design paintings, hand-crafted fabric purses, totes, backpacks, pearl, gemstone and silver jewelry, wire and bead art, dolls, designer pillows, note cards, prints, wood carved items, embroidery, crochet and knitted items, pillows and even music CDs from local artist and seminary student, Vicar John Tirro. There will a variety of Christmas items as well, including wooden manger scenes, ornaments, tree skirts, stockings, ornaments and candles. Lutheran World Relief also will have a booth, with all proceeds from sales at that booth to address poverty and injustice around the world. Bake sale will benefit Knoxville Interfaith Health Clinic. • St. John Neumann Catholic Church’s Holy Family Prayer Group invites all to a “Life in the Spirit” seminar, of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal, given by the Rev. Larry Hess, and presented through DVD. Hess is liaison of the Charismatic Renewal in the Allentown Diocese. • WordPlayers will present “The Miracle Worker,” the story of Annie Sullivan and her blind, deaf student, Helen Keller. WordPlayers and Erin Stage Co. are collaborating to bring this play to Knoxville. Tickets are $8 to $12 and may be purchased on-line or at the door with cash or check. Showings will be held at WordPlayers’ Theater, 1540 Robinson Road, at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 6, Nov. 12 and Nov. 13, and at 2 p.m., Nov. 14. Group also will tour to Erin Presbyterian Church, 200 Lockett Road, for showings at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 21 and 27 and at 2 p.m., Nov. 22 and 28.
