• CBFO Basketball League is considering beginning a 15-18 year-old boys division during the 2009-10 season if there are enough boys interested. Boys would have to be age 15 as of Sept. 1 to play in this division. • Satchel (all-stars) Traveling baseball team will be holding registration for its 2010 summer travel baseball team for youth and high school baseball players ages 13-15 and 16-19. • Smoky Mountain Junior Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for the following age groups at Hardin Valley Academy: age 12-and-under, 6-7:30 p.m., Nov. 2; age 13-14, 7:30-9:30, Nov. 2; age 15-16, 2–3:30 p.m., Nov. 1; age 17-18, 3:30-5 p.m., Nov. 1. • Diamond 9U youth baseball tryouts begin at 3:30 p.m., Oct. 25, on Farragut Baseball, Inc. Field No. 2 along Northshore Drive. In case of rain, it will move to the Diamond Simcox Academy. 

• Denise Penzkofer, Pellissippi State Community College faculty member, was honored by her alma mater for sports achievement Oct. 16. Penzkofer, an associate professor who has taught at Pellissippi State since 1999, earned her undergraduate in physical education from Maryville College, where she is included on that school's Wall of Fame. While at Maryville, she was the recipient of J.D. Davis Award as an outstanding student-athlete. She is one of only two volleyball referees in Tennessee certified by the Professional Association of Volleyball Officials as a national volleyball official.

• Free lacrosse clinic for boys in grades 3-8 from 9 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday., Nov. 7, at Farragut Middle School lacrosse field (behind FMS).  Players and coaches from Farragut High School will provide demonstrations and instruction.  Lacrosse sticks provided.
