• The third edition of “Salt & Light, A Guide to Loving Knoxville” has been released through Compassion Coalition, a local faith-based non-profit. This edition attempts to connect the helpers to those they help through its “A Glimpse” section, which puts the reader in the shoes of a person affected by issues such as addressed being a single mom, living with mental illness or dealing with domestic violence or poverty. Visit www.compassioncoalition.org

• “Circle of Love” is the theme for a musical evening, Friday, Nov. 20, benefiting the Concord Adult Day Enrichment Services program at Concord United Methodist Church. Composer and artist Wendel Werner and vocalist Alan Eleazer will share songs about love, many from their latest recording, “All About Love.” Concert begins at 8 p.m., preceded by dessert at 7:30. • First Farragut United Methodist Church will sponsor a Mobile Pantry food giveaway in its sanctuary, 12733 Kingston Pike, beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7. A semi-tractor trailer load of food will be distributed beginning at 9 and continuing until all food has been handed out. Any area residents who are in need of help are encouraged to come.



• First Baptist Concord will hold its Women’s Ministry 2009 Christmas Brunch, Saturday, Nov. 14. Register by Nov. 9. Cost of brunch is $15, register for child care by calling 865-288-1634.

 • Tellico Village Community Church Crafters invites all to its Fall Craft and Bake Sale, from 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Nov. 14. Event will be held in the Christian Life Center, at Tellico Parkway and Chota Road. Craft Fair will include a wide variety of hand-crafted seasonal and gift merchandise. New this year is the “Tennessee Corner.” Proceeds from the sale are donated to local charities, scholarships and non-profit organizations.

• First Baptist Concord will host Travis Cottrell for his “Jesus Saves” live tour, at 6 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Kingston Pike campus worship center. Admission is free and childcare is provided for children ages birth through pre-K.

• Messiah Lutheran Church will hold a craft fair from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, for the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. Fair will include booths of individual crafters, both local and out of community, selling their goods of original design paintings, hand-crafted fabric purses, totes, backpacks, pearl, gemstone and silver jewelry, wire and bead art, dolls, designer pillows, note cards, prints, wood carved items, embroidery, crochet and knitted items, pillows and even music CDs from local artist and seminary student, Vicar John Tirro. There will a variety of Christmas items as well, including wooden manger scenes, ornaments, tree skirts, stockings, ornaments and candles. Lutheran World Relief also will have a booth, with all proceeds from sales at that booth to address poverty and injustice around the world. Bake sale will benefit Knoxville Interfaith Health Clinic. • St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Lenoir City will host a retreat by Paula D’Arcy, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14. D’Arcy, a writer and spiritual director, will speak on “Seeing the Second Half of Life Through New Eyes,” sharing reflections, lessons and knowledge to aid men and women in more fully experiencing their spiritual journey. • The Rev. Charles G. vonRosenberg, third bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee, has announced his plans to retire in early 2011, and has asked that a search for his successor begin. vonRosenberg, who celebrated his 10th anniversary as bishop of the diocese of in 2009, will be 63 and will have served as bishop for more than 12 years by the time he leaves office. Episcopal Diocese of East Tennessee encompasses an area of approximately 14,350 square miles, and is comprised of 45 congregations and five worshiping communities servicing nearly 16,000 active members.

• Concord United Methodist Church will donate toys to about 600 children in Morgan and Scott counties for Christmas. Cash and all sizes of batteries also will help. Do not donate candy. Children will be between newborn and age 18. Donation boxes will be located at the church. Deadline for donations is Dec. 1.

• St. John Neumann Catholic Church welcomes its new choir director, Andy Forsythe, who will direct the 10:30 a.m. service choir. Forsythe is from Chattanooga, where he taught at Notre Dame High School.

• Concord United Methodist Church is offering a worship service at 6:30 p.m., Sundays. “A Quiet Place” offers a weekly opportunity to sing, pray and listen quietly for God’s voice in a small group setting. • WordPlayers will present “The Miracle Worker,” the story of Annie Sullivan and her blind, deaf student, Helen Keller. Showings will be held at WordPlayers’ Theater, 1540 Robinson Road, at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 6, Nov. 12 and Nov. 13, and at 2 p.m., Nov. 14.
