Ads end OR 7-year reign

Led by Kenta Nolin’s third-place finish at 17:05.50, the Farragut boys cross country team ended Oak Ridge’s seven-year stranglehold on the Region 2-AAA meet, edging OR 53-54 to win region Thursday, Oct. 29, at Victor Ashe Park.

“For the kids and for us it was huge,” said FHS head coach Chelsea Jacobs, whose Ads qualify for Saturday’s Class AAA state meet in Brentwood along with ORHS and third-place Bearden. “The seniors have worked so hard for four years to get to this point.”

Other top Admirals: Zack Royster 11th, Kyle Branson 12th, Zach Saunders 13th and Connor Schwartz 14th.

Knoxville Catholic’s Megan Ferowich set a meet record (18:02.50) to win region and, along with second-place Joanna Thompson, led KCHS to girls second-place. Alex Newby’s fourth-place finish paced Farragut to third-place and a state berth.

Bearden’s Tyler Freeman took fifth, with Kyle Walter ninth and Peter Migun 10th. Hardin Valley’s Will Templeton qualified for state by finishing seventh.

BHS’s Rebecca Stover goes to state after taking fifth. FHS’s Peri Winborne was 11th.
