State trip eludes CAK boys; USN rolls

KNOXVILLE — Things began to unravel by the middle of the second quarter for Christian Academy of Knoxville’s boys basketball team.

It got much worse early in the third quarter, as University School of Nashville (21-8), the Division II-A No. 4 Middle Region seed, came to CAK and used athleticism and hot shooting to end the Warriors season, 73-54, in the sectional final Saturday night, Feb. 26.

“They shot the ball very well, and they’re very talented, we knew that coming in,” said CAK head coach J.D. Johnson, whose team ends 22-13. “... Our problem was we weren’t rebounding the ball.”

Luke Carter, junior wing, led the Warriors in scoring with 16 points, followed by senior point guard Denzel Jackson with 11.
